Employment Services

KNI also has an active Employment Services division that coordinates employment opportunities for the people who live at KNI. This service facilitates a variety of supported employment positions at KNI and in the community, as well as several entrepreneurial businesses designed to offer people more control and choice in their lives. There are 133 people (84%) employed in some capacity, either at KNI or in the community. Twenty-eight of these individuals were working at sites in the Topeka community.

Principles of Person-Centered Employment

• Meaningful paid work
• At least minimum wage
• Work consistent with interests and preferences
• Considerable support to work is OK
• Hours range from 1-2 per week to several per day
